A Lesson From Nature

As part of my usual prayer practice, I start each day with an inspirational reading from 'Our Daily Bread' before moving on to my Bible.  Today's column was headed "Stick Together" and as I read it I thought how appropriate (once again) for this moment in time!  Briefly, it centered on a study that explained how colonies of fire ants could survive floods for weeks without being destroyed even though their bodies are more dense than water.  The study showed there are tiny hairs on the ants' bodies that trap air bubbles and when thousands of them cling together they form a sort of 'life raft' to ride out the flood.  Think about that - their  survival depends on 'clinging together'!

Have you ever considered why Christianity seems to be under increasing attack; why these attacks are more hostile,  more radical, more arrogant and more (dare I say it) IN YOUR FACE?   Do you think it's because we have tolerated it for so long we  believe if we shrug our shoulders and continue to ignore it, it will go away?   Assaults on religious freedom will continue until, by our total lack of unity and 'togetherness', there will be no more religious freedom.  The enemy is not pounding at our doors to get in - they're already here and they're well-prepared!  Do you think we might want to pattern our survival on the fire ant?

As the writer of the article said "Christians stand strong when they stand together."

....."that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting".....  Ephesians 4:14
